Graphic cards model |
Graphics card is computer component who makes the connection between the computer and the screen. it is primarily designed to remove the graphical processing tasks from the processor or RAM. It includes a dedicated graphical processing unit (GPU) and a dedicated RAM that help it to process graphical data quickly. Like most processors, a graphics card also has a dedicated heat sink to keep the heat out of the GPU. A graphics card enables the display of 3-D images, image rasterization, higher pixel ration, a broader range of colors and more.
A graphics card can be integrated within the motherboard or be added on as an extension card. Every PC uses a GPU to render images, video and 2D or 3D animations for display. A GPU performs quick math calculations and frees up the CPU to do other things. Whereas a CPU uses a few cores focused on sequential serial processing, a GPU has thousands of smaller cores made for multi-tasking. In a physical way, the graphic card through the connectors such as (VGA, DVI, HDMI) converting the digital data of the computer into signals by the display device.

Some motherboards have expansion slots allowing users to add more than one graphics card, this is called SLI (NVIDIA) or CrossfireX (AMD) allowing users to get improved performance from their system. Users will need an SLI or Crossfire ready motherboard to use these technologies. The intention being to link two of the same graphics cards together.

Types of Graphic Cards
There are two main manufacturers of discrete graphics cards, AMD and Nvidia. Some users have allegiances to a particular brand but each will do the same job. AMD also produce some integrated graphics option as well as the current market leader- Intel.

- Onboard Cards or integrated graphics cards are built into a computer's motherboard and are typically less powerful than cards installed in an expansion bay.
- Dedicated Cards are graphics cards that are installed in PCI express, AGP, PCI, or other expansion bays, and have their own video memory separate from the system's main RAM.
Many graphics cards today run on GDDR SDRAM, which stands for graphics double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory. Further variations, from worst to best performance, are: GDDR2, GDDR3, GDDR4, GDDR5, GDDR5X and GDDR6.
